You may find some frequently asked questions answered below:

Lincoln Academy has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. Since 2016 the school has asked families to purchase their student’s laptop for use in the classroom and for homework. Much of the academic work required by LA teachers is completed on laptops both in and outside of the classroom.

Lincoln Academy expects that every student will bring his or her own laptop computer capable of running an up-to-date web browser, wireless networking, and accommodating functional academic use. Students should bring their computer with a fully charged battery at the start of each day and have their charger with them if they need to charge during the day.

We have found that a BYOD program can be more effective than a school-provided one-to-one system, and is a viable solution because new Chromebooks can be purchased for around $350. Students take significantly better care of hardware they own, and with a BYOD program, students can choose the device that works best for their learning needs. Additionally, we have found that students engage more fully with their own technology: they invest time and energy into learning the possibilities of their device. The BYOD program builds a culture of ownership and good stewardship.

Lincoln Academy recommends Chromebooks for most students’ technology needs, because of the relatively high value of function and portability to price point. Most academic work at LA is done via online platforms like Google Drive and Canvas. Chromebooks have all the necessary functionality to work with these platforms without the added expense and weight.

Some possible recommendations to consider are:

HP Chromebook 14B-NA0010WM 14″ FHD AMD Ryzen 3 128GB SSD 4GB RAM Mineral Silver

Acer Chromebook Vero 514 CBV514-1H-34X9 Laptop, Intel Core i3-1215U, 14″ FHD IPS Display, 8GB LPDDR4X, 128GB SSD

CTL Chromebox NL72CTL – 11.6″ HD Touchscreen, LTE Band 48 CRBS, Dual-Core Intel Celeron N4500, 8GB/64GB

Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook, 15.6” FHD Display, Intel Celeron N4500, 8GB RAM, 64GB eMMC
