Tenth Grade

What to Expect

• Continue developing knowledge, skills, and practices learned in 9th grade
• Sophomore Year Information Night virtual presentation
• Individual Meetings with assigned CAC counselor in December-January
  • The focus of the meeting will be to further develop the  student-counselor relationship, talk about post-secondary plans, mention  the PSAT-10 optional test given in March of 10th grade, and provide a general understanding of  standardized testing
• Sophomore Seminar, which takes place during the second trimester, focuses on how to be a successful student at Lincoln Academy and introduces two surveys in Naviance to be completed in the tenth grade: Career Cluster Finder and Career Interest Profiler 
• Make the most of the summer through work, volunteer, formal summer programs, or travel opportunities.
• Getting ready for junior year with course and activity selection
• Understanding the individualized college advising process

Testing

• PSAT-10 in March of sophomore year during the school day
• Fall, Winter or Spring: TOEFL/Duolingo for non-native English speakers

The Career and Academic Counseling Office at LA is here to support your learning and growth.

School Counselors provide academic, social-emotional, college and career, and advocacy support. Throughout your time at LA students come to the CAC office:

• to talk about how things are going at school.
• to change a class.
• to talk about what they want to do after high school.
• to find a scholarship.
• for academic advice.
• to get a copy of their schedule.
• to ask their counselor to do a credit check to see if they are on track to meet graduation requirements.
