Lincoln Academy, in Newcastle, Maine seeks a full-time French teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

Founded in 1801, Lincoln Academy is an independent Town Academy deeply rooted in the midcoast communities of central Lincoln County. For over 220 years we have served as an educational center for students from more than 15 towns in the region. In addition to our local students, the school enrolls up to 50 international and domestic boarding students. This results in an exciting mix of students, and the school is committed to providing an outstanding education for each of them.

We seek a dynamic World Languages French teacher who is fluent and passionate, whose primary teaching responsibility is to teach all levels of French including an AP class. We value someone who is familiar with current trends in World Languages methodology. The World Languages program is proficiency-based and aligned with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards. We seek a teacher who is willing to collaborate with members of the department and able to work independently. At Lincoln Academy, we are committed to offering “real life” language experiences in the classroom as well as abroad. We typically offer an immersion study abroad experience every other year in both Spanish and French. The majority of our students begin their language study in high school without having experienced language instruction at the elementary level.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty members are also required to advise a group of students, collaborate with colleagues and students in a diverse academic setting, and participate in duties associated with the school’s boarding program. Evidence of positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and parents and a commitment to continued professional development are important qualifications.

Lincoln Academy is an equal opportunity employer.  Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, three letters of reference or names and contacts of references, copies of relevant certifications, and a philosophy of teaching statement or example of lesson/activity that outlines your philosophy and approach to teaching.
