History and Social Studies

Putting the World in Context

Students in our classes increase their general knowledge and awareness and understanding of, and appreciation for, local, state, regional, national, and international events and issues in a historical context.

The History and Social Studies Department at Lincoln Academy requires all students to earn two social studies credits for graduation. One of these must be a year of either World History or Geography, taken during either the freshman or sophomore year. The other must be a full year of United States History taken during junior year. United States History is offered at two levels, Advanced Placement, and College Prep. Additional elective courses are offered to students who wish to take additional courses in Social Studies during their sophomore, junior, or senior years. The purpose of the core courses and requirements is to provide a strong and broad foundation for all students, better preparing them to deal with the opportunities and challenges they will face as adults in a changing and uncertain world. The core is designed to help students increase their general knowledge and awareness and understanding of, and appreciation for, local, state, regional, national, and international events and issues in a historical context.
