Mr. Manahan came to Lincoln Academy in 1999 from a background in experiential education particularly aboard sail training vessels on the coast of Maine. He hoped to bring the same excitement for learning nautical science and maritime studies on the sea to the study of reading and writing in the English classroom. When not growing with students in the classroom, his preference is still to be outside in the woods or on the water with his family and a good book.

Michael Rowland began his career in education working with nonprofits in Louisiana and New Mexico. After attending graduate school in North Carolina, he taught English at public schools around The Research Triangle for more than a decade. Michael moved to Maine in 2024 with his partner, Brianna, and their two dogs, Moki and Hydra. He enjoys exploring the beautiful scenery of the Midcoast by pedaling and paddling and is always eager to learn something new.

Chelsea Scott found a home in teaching after prior careers in foster care case management and internet marketing. She has written freelance nonfiction for various publications, including Maine the Way Quarterly, Maine Women Magazine, and Session Magazine. Her plays have been performed on New York City stages. Chelsea is thrilled to be a member of the English faculty and residential program here at Lincoln Academy. Besides writing, Chelsea loves choral singing, pilates, and swimming. She lives on campus with her husband, Jonathan, two daughters, Adeline and Tallulah, and can often be seen walking their sweet rescue dog, Trudie.

Bridget Wright has always wanted to be an English teacher and is living the dream. She holds a Bachelor's in Secondary Education, English and a Master's in Educational Leadership, both from the University of Maine at Farmington. Ms. Wright is the 2025 Lincoln County Teacher of the year and 2026 finalist for the Maine Teacher of the Year. In addition to teaching, she is also the Civil Rights Team advisor and runs the student-staffed Writing Center. Ms. Wright's free time is joyfully filled with listening to fantasy and mystery audiobooks while doing fiber crafts, cooking, snuggling her pets, and galavanting around in search of adventure with her husband.

A lifelong Mainer, Brenda grew up in nearby Wiscasset. While earning her BS in Secondary Education with a concentration in English from the University of Maine at Farmington, she fell in love with Western Maine and decided to stay, teaching English at Mt. Blue High School. Marriage and family pulled her back to the midcoast, where she taught at her alma mater, Wiscasset High School, and discovered a passion for adolescent literacy. She returned to school in 2013 and completed a Master’s degree in Literacy Education in 2015. Brenda lives in Dresden with her husband, Jon, and two children, Maggie and Eben.

Emily Dickinson’s “Much Madness is Divinest Sense” changed Jack’s life forever. After working in outdoor education, Jack moved his teaching and learning practice to the English classroom where poetry–and other ways of reading, writing, and storytelling–could take center stage. He holds a B.A. in English from the University of Richmond and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Virginia where he focused his studies on the social foundations of education. Jack is an expert spellcaster and makes clothes on his sewing machine at home. He teaches English and coadvises the Talon here at Lincoln Academy.

Chris Morse has taught math, computer science, and physics in California, Maine, and Australia. In addition, he spent a number of years in the business world as a programmer analyst, product manager, and corporate trainer. At various times and places, you could find Chris coaching youth sports, managing the warehouse at the local food pantry, or coordinating the board game staff at New England's largest tabletop gaming convention. His favorite hobbies include tennis, modern board gaming, D&D, reading (mostly Fantasy/SF), movies, and showing off our wonderful mid-coast Maine to friends from away.

Matthew spent two years at Old Town High School and one at Morse High School before arriving at Lincoln Academy, teaching everything from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus and Statistics. He currently lives in Bath with his partner Alyssa and their cat Henry. Outside of the classroom, Matthew is an avid birder and artist who enjoys playing volleyball and board games.

Steven Cheff was born and raised in Northern California. After graduating from UC Davis with highest honors in nutrition and biochemistry, and obtaining his teaching credential at Chico State University, he found his way to Maine where he fell in love with the state's people, beauty and nature. Steven spent the next 23 years teaching high school science in the Bangor area, most recently at John Bapst, before joining us at Lincoln Academy last year. During this time, Steven has been busy raising four children and two pugs, coaching hockey, and being a music connoisseur. He now enjoys hiking and kayaking on the Mid-Coast and catching live shows whenever possible.

Growing up in Fort Kent, Maine with four brothers meant that Prema spent a lot of time outdoors collecting, befriending, and taming any living thing that she could find. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington where Ecology became her passion. After a short stint working in the Forest Service's Entomology Lab, Prema moved to Wiscasset to work at The Chewonki Foundation where she spent five years teaching, guiding wilderness trips, and doing environmental monitoring. Prema decided to transition into teaching full time and attended the University of Southern Maine's ETEP program to earn her Master's degree in Education. Prior to working at Lincoln Academy, Prema taught Science at Wiscasset High School. She lives in Topsham with her partner Matt, two moderately well-behaved dogs, and a flock of unruly chickens. In her free time she enjoys reading, canoeing, fishing, cooking, and spending as much time outside as possible.

Kelley Borg Duffy became a social studies teacher in part because it was the only discipline where she felt she could integrate all her academic loves: science, literature, data and history. A native Vermonter and daughter of educators, Kelley went to boarding school in Massachusetts and college in Pennsylvania. After college, she went on to teach in Philadelphia PA, Albuquerque NM, Switzerland, and Venezuela. She met her husband while taking a Wilderness EMT class in Maine, and found herself drawn back to New England. Before joining Lincoln Academy's social studies department, Kelley taught at Wiscasset High School. She and her husband are raising two daughters, two dogs, and a cat, and she spends most of her free time hiking, paddling, camping, and gardening - while always looking for opportunities to travel.

A native of Maine and a graduate of Lincoln Academy, Isaac Vesery returned to Lincoln in August of 2024 after teaching in the Adirondack Mountains for 6 years. He is excited to step into the roles of Director of Residential Life and dorm parent. With a background in independent schools, boarding programs, and experiential education, Isaac looks forward to reconnecting with the Lincoln Academy community.

Dr. Kathleen Colquhoun Halm earned her B.A. from Skidmore College, Masters degrees from Georgetown and Columbia Universities, and her Ph.D. in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She specializes in European History and teaches World History, US History, and A.P. European History. She is also coach of the Debate Team. A lifelong summer resident of Round Pond and Damariscotta, Kathleen made a permanent move here in 1995, and raised her children, Ben--Class of 2016--and May--Class of 2019--in Edgecomb, where she currently resides.

Mrs. Hanley has always loved studying languages and literature. After growing up in TN, she studied at the University of Tennessee and also spent semesters at universities in Granada, Spain and Urbino, Italy. Upon graduation, she spent two years as a student tour guide across Europe for traveling American high schools. She landed in Maine in 2003 and began teaching Spanish. She resides in Newcastle with her husband, three sons and many pets. As a long term resident of Newcastle, she is extremely excited to begin her journey here at LA!

Chelsea Quintero Bull joined Lincoln Academy in the fall of 2023. Raised in a military family, she lived in several states—including Rhode Island, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Michigan—before completing her middle and high school years in Maine. She is happy to now call midcoast Maine home. Her diverse upbringing, combined with her Hispanic heritage, fostered both a love of travel and a deep appreciation for world languages. Ms. Bull has taught Spanish, Japanese, and English for a decade and spent four years living in Tokyo and Kyoto.

A world traveller, bread-baker, ice hockey-player, trained physical therapist, and marathon runner, Alain embraces life in Maine with gusto. He moved to the area with his wife Erica in 2012, happily leaving behind city life. He taught French and Spanish in Wiscasset Middle High, and in the summer, Alain works full-time on the farm. He helps with everything from chain-sawing, irrigation and breaking ground to installing deer fencing and portable chicken coops. He can also be found taking care of his bees or baking loaves of sourdough bread, gâteaux, and French pastries for the team.

Descended from Northern Maine potato farmers, and after a mostly idyllic young life, Mr. Braley moved to mid coast Maine in the seventies, discovered music, theater and writing, and took up the theater arts, graduating from Bates College with a theater major. After 38 years in education, and 20 years as Artistic Director at Heartwood Regional Theater Co., he has directed more than 200 plays, including many originals and adaptations. At Lincoln, Mr. Braley can be found in the Poe Theater where he annually directs two high school plays, while teaching film, play production and acting. His blessings in life include the amazing Mrs. Joy Braley, five incredible children, and seventeen grandchildren. Other interests include matters of faith, poetry and music.

Jason Paquette has been teaching music for two decades now. He comes from a family of music teachers with a combined sixty plus years of experience. Jason got his education from the University of Maine in Orono. He currently lives with his wife, four kids, two dogs and cat in Gardiner, Maine. When not singing, playing piano or guitar, you can find Jason in his boat fishing or on the disc golf course.

Steve Piwowarski hails from just outside of New York City. In elementary school, he aspired to play the saxophone after hearing Clarence Clemons play with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. As life went on, his musical universe continued to grow, eventually encompassing multiple genres, instruments, ensembles, and many friendships that have been forged in shared music making. Besides making music, he enjoys time spent outdoors with his wife Annie and sons John and Arthur, along with volunteering as a conductor of a different sort at the WW&F Railway in Alna.

Jonathan Mess teaches three-dimensional art and ceramics at Lincoln Academy. As an artist, he creates experimental works using reclaimed ceramic materials. Art critic Daniel Kany writes, “Mess’ slabs usually act like the unruly child versions of paintings. Their lines are wild, and their surfaces are varied and thickly textured with glazes, slips, fissures and irascibly independent materials that refused to be melted into line… In terms of ceramics, Mess’ casual boldness is remarkable.” An Ohio native, he has been teaching visual arts with a focus on ceramics for over a decade. Mess has received several grants and awards, including the Maine Arts Commission's 2015 Contemporary Craft Fellowship, a St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award, a Ruth & Harold Chenven Foundation Grant, and selection as a finalist for the Society of Contemporary Craft’s Raphael Founder’s Prize in 2013. His work is in private collections and is exhibited nationally and internationally.

Kate Mess joined LA's Visual Art Department in 2019 and previously worked as a design consultant on many LA publications. A studio jeweler and graphic designer, Kate has a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters from SUNY New Paltz. She has taught at SUNY New Paltz and SMCC, run workshops for the Maine Craft Association and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. In addition to teaching Small Scale Metalsmithing & Jewelry, Graphic Design, Yearbook, Art Fundamentals and Intro to DET, Kate continues her design work on LA publications.

Raised in Belfast, Maine, Maya is a passionate educator with degrees in Microbiology and Journalism from the University of Rochester. She pursued a graduate degree in Marine Science from the University of Maine and hopes to engage in further research in learning sciences. Sprinkled in between, she has been a cook, biotechnologist, editor, shellfish biologist and instructional designer. Her diverse education and experiences reflects her multifaceted interests, blending the realms of biology, journalism, and human cognition. As the Director of Applied Learning at Lincoln Academy, she bridges theory and real-world applications, fostering authentic learning experiences and creativity among faculty and students. Outside of school, she explores nature, travels and enjoys culinary experiments. Maya strives to embody a cephalopod-like spirit of curiosity and resourcefulness, and hopes to leave a lasting impact on her students and community.

Andrew Jonash graduated from Lewis and Clark college in 2019 with a major in biology and a minor in sculpture. He has worked as a welder for a metal sculptor in Portland, Oregon, in aquaculture on a kelp and oyster farm on the Damariscotta river, as well as scuba diver and project manager for an environmental project focusing on ghost gear removal in Boothbay Harbor. He has been an assistant coach on the winter and spring track teams. He enjoys playing ultimate frisbee and has a jack russell chihuahua named Tugboat and a lab mix named Birdie.

David Brooks joined the ATEC team at LA on July 1, 2019 from The Hyde School, where he taught computer science and robotics. He was responsible for classroom technology campus-wide and part of their IT team, and directed their STEAM program. David developed and managed their foundation grant that allowed Hyde to start its STEAM program and has pursued and received several other grants for that program. Before teaching at Hyde, David was a software engineer at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and owner of the independent software consultancy Installer Factory. Before that was a Sr. Principal Software Engineer at Symantec Software. David's office is in ATEC, where he be teaches AP Computer Science A, works as LA's PowerSchool Administrator and IT Coordinator.

Mr. Janik was born and raised in the Czech Republic (formerly) Czechoslovakia. About two years before the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Mr. Janik’s parents escaped the Communist regime along with him and his younger brother. Leaving everything and his older brother behind, Mr. Janik’s family started a new life in Connecticut. After attending and graduating from high school, Mr. Janik earned his degree from the University of Maine at Farmington. His first three years of teaching Health were at MSAD #40 (A.D. Gray and D.R. Gaul Middle Schools) in Waldoboro and Union. Trying to expand his horizons and expertise in teaching the secondary grade levels, he then decided to move on and ended up the following three years teaching Wellness at Lincoln/Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Loving the Midcoast area, Mr. Janik returned to Maine and added two more years of teaching back at MSAD#40. Mr. Janik has been part of Lincoln Academy since 2006. Currently, as the Wellness Department Head and Wellness Instructor, Mr. Janik continues to support students’ lives by encouraging them to make healthy and responsible choices, so they may lead better lives and become productive members of our community. Mr. Janik spends his free time traveling, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, and playing games. Mr. Janik’s desire is to travel the beautiful USA and visit other parts of the world to further explore other cultures.

Laura Phelps was an elementary school librarian for 15 years before joining the LA faculty in 2019. Prior to that she was a public librarian in Vermont and a high school teacher in Romania. Laura is a National Board Certified Teacher and the 2019 Walter J. Taranko Maine School Librarian of the Year. She practices yoga daily, loves the Red Sox and travels near and far as frequently as possible. Laura lives in the woods of Wiscasset.

Jackie’s interest in education was sparked after serving as an instructional aid for students with special needs. Inspired by the students’ perseverance in the face of adversity and their teachers’ dedication to support them as they overcame challenges, she returned to college herself and completed an undergraduate degree in English. Upon completion in 2021, Jackie and her family moved from a quaint river town in Pennsylvania to the picturesque Midcoast of Maine. In the recent past, she enjoyed working at the Lincoln County News as an ad designer and marketing coordinator, where she also had the opportunity to write articles for the newspaper and Lincoln County Magazine. In her free time, Jackie enjoys songwriting, performing, and outdoor adventuring with her husband, Justin, and three sons – Daniel, Caleb and Arlo.

Amy Winkle lives in Newcastle with her husband Tor Glendinning (LA class of '90!) and her two children, Maari and Eero. She has a B.S. from Cornell University, and after working as a lobster and cod tagger and an environmental chemist, found the educational field calling. She has worked as an editor of life skills textbooks, as well as in the classroom. After a stint two years ago as a long-term sub for the Science Department, she is returning to LA as an Ed Tech in the Life Skills program. In her spare time, she likes to do "crazy Maine things" (as her sister from NJ calls them), like keep bees, garden, play the fiddle, spin wool, and make soap.

Adria is a Lincoln Academy graduate from the class of 2009. She has been working with the Life Skills program and Support Study since 2018. Her previous job was at North Londonderry Elementary in NH where she was a Library/Media Assistant and a choreographer for their musicals. She graduated from Endicott College with a Bachelor's Degree in English. In addition to working at Lincoln, Adria owns a small princess party company. Morgan Brewer is a Lincoln Academy Alumni and received her degree in Elementary Education from St. Josephs College of Maine. Kathy Felch joined LA in 2017 after working for MSAD 40 in their Life Skills program. She has worked through the years with many different age groups in both private and public schools teaching children with disabilities. Kathy lives in the town of Union with her husband David and two cats, Halo and Groucho. In her spare time she is a practicing printmaker and has shown her work in various galleries and venues around the state of Maine.

Jeff Burroughs started his work at Lincoln Academy in July 2019 as our 44th Head of School. Jeff was the Assistant Headmaster for Academics at St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, a ninth-grade through postgraduate town academy of 970 students which shares the town academy structural and funding model with Lincoln Academy. An engineer by training, Mr. Burroughs worked for seven years as an IBM program manager before beginning his tenure at St. Johnsbury Academy. Preceding IBM, he spent a number of years at the Hyde School in Bath, where Mr. Burroughs had a number of roles, including math teacher, Director of Admission, and Assistant Headmaster. Jeff lives in Newcastle with his wife, Melissa, also an educator. The couple has three children: Jeb, 30, is an independent film editor living in NYC, Andrew, 28, is a copywriter in advertising also living in NYC; and Eliza, 26, works in executive recruiting and lives in London.

Kelley Borg Duffy became a social studies teacher in part because it was the only discipline where she felt she could integrate all her academic loves: science, literature, data and history. A native Vermonter and daughter of educators, Kelley went to boarding school in Massachusetts and college in Pennsylvania. After college, she went on to teach in Philadelphia PA, Albuquerque NM, Switzerland, and Venezuela. She met her husband while taking a Wilderness EMT class in Maine, and found herself drawn back to New England. Before joining Lincoln Academy's social studies department, Kelley taught at Wiscasset High School. She and her husband are raising two daughters, two dogs, and a cat, and she spends most of her free time hiking, paddling, camping, and gardening - while always looking for opportunities to travel.

Raised in Belfast, Maine, Maya is a passionate educator with degrees in Microbiology and Journalism from the University of Rochester. She pursued a graduate degree in Marine Science from the University of Maine and hopes to engage in further research in learning sciences. Sprinkled in between, she has been a cook, biotechnologist, editor, shellfish biologist and instructional designer. Her diverse education and experiences reflects her multifaceted interests, blending the realms of biology, journalism, and human cognition. As the Director of Applied Learning at Lincoln Academy, she bridges theory and real-world applications, fostering authentic learning experiences and creativity among faculty and students. Outside of school, she explores nature, travels and enjoys culinary experiments. Maya strives to embody a cephalopod-like spirit of curiosity and resourcefulness, and hopes to leave a lasting impact on her students and community.

Trish joined the LA team in 2023, starting in Residential Life before earning a seat on the Admin team in 2025. When she isn't wrangling schedules and spreadsheets, you’ll find her traveling, reading, baking, or tracking every strategic pit stop during a Formula 1 race. A proud dual US-German citizen, she seizes every excuse to fly back to Europe for family and real bread. Trish lives in Bristol with her husband and their two children, Oliver ('27) and Edith ('32). You can also spot her having a laugh with friends and bringing music to the area as a founding member of the Shucktown Community Band.

Combining these experiences with a desire to engage with her community, led her to being a part of the Lincoln Academy community as Mr. Burrough's assistant. Her son, Harrison is in the class of 2023 and her sons, Hamilton and Anderson are in the class of 2026.

Laura Phelps was an elementary school librarian for 15 years before joining the LA faculty in 2019. Prior to that she was a public librarian in Vermont and a high school teacher in Romania. Laura is a National Board Certified Teacher and the 2019 Walter J. Taranko Maine School Librarian of the Year. She practices yoga daily, loves the Red Sox and travels near and far as frequently as possible. Laura lives in the woods of Wiscasset.

Jake Abbott has been a part of the LA community since 2006. Jake has worked in a variety of roles at the school. Jake supports the operations of the school, shares in the management of student discipline, and supports many student programs, extra-curricular activities and initiatives to get students involved in learning and exploring new opportunities. Jake is also responsible for the school's boarding students, working closely with the Director of Residential Life and the various departments that support it. Jake is also very involved in the local community serving as a member of the Newcastle Fire Department, where he is also on the Board of Trustees.

Most recently, she served as Associate Director of Admissions at Thornton Academy where she helped to bring in both international and day students. She also directed the Summer at Thornton Academy program, a 4-week summer program for boarding students. Prior to this, she worked in Marketing & Communications and also as a classroom teacher (French, Spanish, and Geometry) for twelve years.

When not working here, she works as Secretary and Treasurer of Union Church in South Bristol and enjoys camping, reading, knitting and crocheting and crafting of all sorts. Jenny Mayher grew up on the campus of an independent school in Tarrytown, New York, where her parents were teachers, so taking a job at Lincoln Academy in 2014 seemed a natural fit. In her role of Communications Director Jenny is responsible for Lincoln Academy's social media, website, weekly newsletter, press, photography, and publications, including the school's annual alumni magazine, Aerie. She co-advises the Lincoln Academy Eagle's Talon student newspaper and co-teaches the Yearbook and Communications class. She is the parent of two recent LA graduates, Essie Martin '17 (Bates College '22) and Jojo Martin '20 (Tufts University '25).

Ben Thorpe, '03, was born in Bangladesh, where he lived until age ten, when his family moved to Newcastle, Maine. Surrounded by wonderful teachers and coaches at Great Salt Bay and Lincoln Academy, Ben developed lifelong passions for soccer, creative writing, art, and music. Following his undergraduate studies, he worked in development for the Hispanic College Fund in Washington, DC, and then moved to New York City to complete an MFA at the School of Visual Arts. In New York, Ben enjoyed volunteering as a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and teaching swimming to young children.
Ben went on to teach high school English and Art in San Francisco while living in Oakland with his spouse, Michele Kennedy. After six years on the west coast, Ben and Michele moved to Maine with their daughter in 2024 to spend time closer to Ben's family. Ben coached JV Boys Soccer at Lincoln Academy that Fall and then joined the development office in the Spring of 2025. He is excited to be settling into life on the Maine coast with his family and reconnecting with his hometown community.

Annie Edwards, a longtime educator, has served as a teacher, administrator, and mentor in an independent school setting. She holds a BA from St. Lawrence University, a MA from Middlebury College, a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA, a MA from The College of New Jersey, and is a certified school counselor. Annie spent many years as a member of the Northwood School faculty where she served as language department chair, Academic Director, Associate Director of College Guidance, and Advisor to the Community Service program. Annie also taught French, English and psychology. Next, Annie served as the Director of University Guidance at Beijing City International School in Beijing, China. Annie introduced and developed a comprehensive, four-year college counseling program, entitled University Prep (UP), to guide students, parents, and advisors through the college admissions process. She then made the transition back to living full time in Lake Placid, New York and served as part of the academic team at New York Ski Education Foundation for the Winter Term program, designed for student-athletes training in the Olympic region in the disciplines of alpine, freestyle, and Nordic skiing for the winter months, while earning her second master’s degree in international school counseling. Annie grew up in Maine and is thrilled to be returning to the region to join the Lincoln Academy community. Annie’s husband, Jeff, is the Managing Director of Ironman Asia where he produces sports events. They have a Golden Retriever puppy, Houlton, named after the town, where she was born. Annie and Jeff have three adult children who have successfully navigated the college and career process.
Annie is passionate about education and student advising. Annie encourages strong study habits, which include being comfortable enough as a learner that making a mistake is no big deal. Annie spends all her free time exploring the surrounding wilderness. She trail runs, mountain bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, skis, and practices yoga. Annie is an Adirondack 46er and has spent countless hours sharing the beautiful mountains with local school children. She loves to cook and make simple, delicious meals using locally grown produce. Annie can be found knitting constantly and she is willing to try just about any craft or project.

Alexa (Colby Dodge) Abbott was born in Damariscotta and grew up in Edgecomb. Alexa lives on Westport Island with her husband Jason and daughter, Mara. While at Lincoln Academy Alexa has worked as an Educational Technician, a Jobs For Maine Graduates Job Specialist and most recently as an Administrative Assistant in the Guidance Office. Both sides of Alexa's family have deep roots in the Damariscotta area. Her mother and father graduated from Lincoln Academy in the 1960's. Alexa enjoys her home on an island where she feels fortunate to be able to see a deer, osprey and harbor seal all in the same day!

Chelsea Scott found a home in teaching after prior careers in foster care case management and internet marketing. She has written freelance nonfiction for various publications, including Maine the Way Quarterly, Maine Women Magazine, and Session Magazine. Her plays have been performed on New York City stages. Chelsea is thrilled to be a member of the English faculty and residential program here at Lincoln Academy. Besides writing, Chelsea loves choral singing, pilates, and swimming. She lives on campus with her husband, Jonathan, two daughters, Adeline and Tallulah, and can often be seen walking their sweet rescue dog, Trudie.

Bridget Wright has always wanted to be an English teacher and is living the dream. She holds a Bachelor's in Secondary Education, English and a Master's in Educational Leadership, both from the University of Maine at Farmington. Ms. Wright is the 2025 Lincoln County Teacher of the year and 2026 finalist for the Maine Teacher of the Year. In addition to teaching, she is also the Civil Rights Team advisor and runs the student-staffed Writing Center. Ms. Wright's free time is joyfully filled with listening to fantasy and mystery audiobooks while doing fiber crafts, cooking, snuggling her pets, and galavanting around in search of adventure with her husband.

David Brooks joined the ATEC team at LA on July 1, 2019 from The Hyde School, where he taught computer science and robotics. He was responsible for classroom technology campus-wide and part of their IT team, and directed their STEAM program. David developed and managed their foundation grant that allowed Hyde to start its STEAM program and has pursued and received several other grants for that program. Before teaching at Hyde, David was a software engineer at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and owner of the independent software consultancy Installer Factory. Before that was a Sr. Principal Software Engineer at Symantec Software. David's office is in ATEC, where he be teaches AP Computer Science A, works as LA's PowerSchool Administrator and IT Coordinator.

Cindy Wade ’83 holds a Bachelor’s in nursing and a Master’s in Health Care Administration from St. Joseph’s College. Early in her career, she spent 6 years as a Commissioned Officer and Nurse in the Navy in a variety of roles. Cindy returned to Maine in 1994 to work in Lincoln County. She has held various positions during her career in this area, including, until April 2021, that of Chief Operation Officer for LincolnHealth, Pen Bay Medical Center, and Waldo County General. In April of 2021 she became the new President for LincolnHealth. Cindy has been very active in the community including the Central Lincoln County Y Board, the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce where she was Board Chair; past President and Treasurer of the Sheepscot Community Church and current Secretary; and is on the United Way of Midcoast Maine Board. She lives in Sheepscot Village with her husband James and has three sons, all LA grads.

Sam Belknap is the Director of the Island Institute’s Center for the Marine Economy where he oversees the organization’s work on Resilient Working Waterfronts, Sustainable Shellfish and Seaweed Aquaculture, The Future of Fishing, and Marine Decarbonization. Sam, the third of four generations of his family to have held a commercial fishing license, has worked at the intersection of climate, fisheries, and coastal communities for the past two decades. With a background in climate science and anthropology Sam brings his passions for people, place, and the sea to his work at Island Institute as well as to Maine’s Working Waterfront Coalition, SEAMaine - the state’s seafood economic accelerator, and to the National Working Waterfront Network. Sam is deeply engaged in his home community of Damariscotta where he currently serves on both the Great Salt Bay CSD Board and as the chair of the AOS 93 Board. Sam, his wife, and two children live i just a few minutes' drive from his family's working waterfront wharf where his father and oldest child carry on the family’s tradition of lobstering.

David Fields is a zooplankton ecologist with Bigelow Labs. He is a graduate of the University of Utah (BS) and the State University of New York at Stony Brook (MS, PhD). In addition to his research and lab work at Bigelow, early in his career he taught courses at the high school level and also taught later at the Georgia Institute for Technology, where he was a post-doctoral Fellow. David has pages of publications to his credit as well as an impressive list of graduate students he’s supervised and courses he’s taught to students from high school through graduate school. Nancy Starmer joined the LA community in 2017 as a consultant to the board, then served as Interim Head of School during the 2018-19 school year. At Milton Academy in Boston, where she spent the first 27 years of her career, she wore many hats as a history teacher, dorm head, mid-level administrator, and ultimately Upper School Principal. In 2000 she was named Head of School at George School, a Friends boarding and day school in PA, retiring in 2016 (just in time to become involved in—and fall in love with--Lincoln Academy). She currently lives in Sandwich NH where she also serves on the local district school board.

Liz Storer ’01 is the owner and president of R.J. Enterprises Inc., an environmental contracting and consulting firm in Brunswick. She began working for R.J. Enterprises in 2009 and has many certifications in the areas of facilities compliance, environmental policy and procedure, industrial hygiene, exposure monitoring, construction project design, OSHA, trades education, and more. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in environmental health and safety. Liz and her husband Ronnie are 2001 graduates of Lincoln Academy and reside in Damariscotta with their 3 children. Their daughter Marley is currently a senior at LA and their sons Forest and Mason are at GSB in grades 8 and 3. In addition to work and family, Liz has recently joined the Lincoln Little League Board.

John Mills is the founder and President of the Maine Skilled Trades Initiative, a nonprofit supporting skilled trades education to individuals under the supervision of the Maine Department of Corrections. John also teaches at the Maine State Prison in Warren. John and his wife Linda became full-time residents of Maine in 2020 following his retirement from 34 years in securities brokerage and investment management. John is a graduate of Deerfield Academy, has a B.S. from Cornell University and an MBA from the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University.

Jill Griffin holds a JD from Ohio State University College of Law. She worked as a labor lawyer for several federal agencies in Washington D.C., spending most of her career at the National Labor Relations Board, litigating before U.S. Courts of Appeals across the country and the U.S. Supreme Court. After spending summers vacationing in Damariscotta, Jill and her husband, Bill Farren, retired to Jefferson to live on the lake. Prior to that, they lived in Maryland and New Jersey, where they raised their two daughters. In addition to Lincoln Academy, she is involved in a variety of volunteer activities in the area.

Erin Stodder ’01 holds a BS in Anthropology and Studio Art from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. She began her career at Argo Marketing Group, helping the company grow from 20 to over 500 employees and over 150 clients. Most recently, Erin served as the VP of Marketing for Midcoast Hospitality Group in the Boothbay Harbor region for nine years. In this role, she contributed to the growth of two existing companies, nine acquired companies, and eleven brands. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, where she supports local initiatives. In 2025, Erin and her partner purchased a vacation rental company, which they rebranded as Maineland Vacation Rentals in Midcoast Maine. Erin is a proud 2001 graduate of LA and resides in Whitefield with her family, which includes two pups and her nine-year-old son.

Sarah Maurer returned to the LA Board of Trustees in the spring of 2025. She has a BA in History from Bethany College in Bethany, WVA. She is the co-owner of Stone Cove Catering and The 1812 Farm. Her previous experience was in sales management with both IBM and Siemens Corporation. She and her husband Todd live in Bristol and have 5 nieces and nephews that graduated from LA.

Paul Anderson was born and raised in Washington state, and landed in Pemaquid more than 20 years ago. He and his wife Kathy became year-round residents of Maine in 2006 when he retired from his role as Chairman of Duke Energy. Prior to that the Andersons lived many places in the US and overseas, including four years in Australia. Paul holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and an MBA from Stanford. In addition to Lincoln Academy, he serves as a trustee for the Maine Maritime Museum.

John D. Eraklis is a career filmmaker and has been CEO of a Los Angeles based production company for the past 20 years, specializing in animated features and documentaries. A graduate of Suffield Academy (CT) and the University of Rhode Island, John grew up in Connecticut and spent summers in Maine. After the birth of their first child John and his wife Laura made the decision to relocate to Maine (they currently live in Bristol) to raise their children. Their daughter is a member of the Class of '24, and two younger children attend South Bristol School.

Serving on the Lincoln Academy board is a chance for Steven to combine his personal and professional commitment to local education. Steven is Executive Director of Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust (formerly DRA and PWA), where he has worked for 18 years to connect community with nature through trails and educational programs, often partnering with Lincoln Academy. He and his wife, Liza Fleming-Ives, are residents of Damariscotta with one current and one future LA student: Audrey '24 and Nathaniel '26. They're avid hikers and big fans of water in all its forms: fresh and salt, liquid and frozen.

Juliet is a proud member of Lincoln Academy's Alumni class of 1992 and Wheaton College's Alumni class of 1996. She started her recruiting career in Boston with Martin Grant Associates, Inc. in 1998 after initially turning the position down a year earlier to wait on tables in Boothbay Harbor for one last glorious Maine summer (she has no regrets). Since then, Juliet has successfully built the national Employee Benefits, Healthcare and Financial Services recruiting division for MGA. Juliet and her husband Justin Holmes also started another business here in Maine called Maine Business Advisors, LLC, a business advisory and brokerage firm. Juliet has been volunteering (with Dennis Prior '91's encouragement) to support the development office at Lincoln Academy for many years, most notably leading her amazing 1992 Class in dominating the Alumni Community Challenge each year! Juliet lives in Hallowell with her family (Justin, Helaena, Graeff & Elias) but her heart will always be with Walpole and the greater LA Community.

During the decade following graduation from the University of Maine, Bob was a teacher and later principal of a middle school near Bangor. In 1980, Bob & Rachel made a decision to make their life in the mid-coast and raise their sons in Bristol. This led to a career in shipbuilding with a 2002 transition to marine transportation in tug and barge operations. Before retirement in 2016, Bob managed global sea lifts, primarily in the energy sector.

Sara Mitchell was first introduced to life in Maine when she attended the Chewonki Semester Program as a junior in high school, returning in 2000 to make Maine her home. Since then, she has served on the boards of Chewonki, Central Lincoln County Ambulance, Sheepscot Valley Children’s House, and AOS93, serving as the AOS liaison to the LA Board in 2018-19. Sara, her husband John, and their two sons live in South Bristol where she is currently finishing her term as Chair of the South Bristol School Board. Their oldest son Michael is a member of Lincoln Academy's Class of '26 and youngest, Colin, in 7th grade at South Bristol.

Chris Olson ‘83 is an investment manager in Chicago. He has a BA in Political Science from Middlebury College, an MBA at the Wharton School and an MA in East Asian Studies. He has lived abroad in Sweden, Taiwan and Japan, and currently works as a principal and portfolio manager for High Pointe Capital Management. He serves as chairman of the board for the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, where he lives with his wife Charlene. They have two children who attended the Latin School of Chicago and are currently attending Princeton University.
