Each year Lincoln Academy recognizes students in the junior class who have made significant contributions to the school community. These awards are made possible by sponsoring colleges and other organizations. The 2026 awards were presented during the Lincoln Academy Community Meeting on May 15. The following students were honored: 

Flannery Brady received the Bowdoin College Book Award, which recognizes a high school junior who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the common good and an unusual passion for inquiry, discovery, and innovative thinking.

Josephine Shea received the Brandeis University Book Award, which goes to an outstanding high school junior in the top 15 percent of the class who demonstrates a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work. 

Oliver Jonason received the College of the Atlantic Book Award, given to a community-minded student who is a steward of change in our social, economic, and environmental systems. 

Zoe Hufnagel received the Dartmouth College Book award, given to a student in the top 10% of the junior class who has made a significant extracurricular contribution to their school, and is respected by their peers and faculty. 

Lillian LaBrie was presented with the Endicott College Book Award, which honors academic achievement and engaging citizenship.

Victoria Albert earned the Simmons University Book Award, which goes to a student who demonstrates exceptional leadership, a strong commitment to social justice and/or climate action, a dedication to community service, and a consistent record of kindness to others. 

Frances DeGeer received the Smith College Book Award, which recognizes a young woman in the top tenth of her class who exemplifies academic achievement, leadership qualities, and concern for others.

Griffin Beavis earned the St. Lawrence University Book Award. This scholarship program honors students who have distinguished themselves in their commitment to some aspect of sustainability, climate change, or environmental advocacy. 

Ayesha Giberson received this year’s St. Thomas College book award, given to a student in the junior class who has demonstrated leadership and strength in all academic areas, and especially strong writing skills. 

Claire Ward received the Suffolk University Book Award, which goes to a member of the junior class who exemplifies a commitment to his education and school community. 

Caroline Roberts earned the 2026 Thomas College Book Award, which comes with an annual scholarship if the nominee attends Thomas College.

Shayla Pheng was recognized with the Tulane University Book Award, which recognizes high school juniors who embody Tulane’s motto of “not for one’s self, but for one’s own,” and have demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and public service. 

Noah Thornton received the University of New Hampshire Book Award, which recognizes the excellence and achievement of one student who is a current member of the junior class at Lincoln Academy. 

MacKenzie Bernier received the Yale University Book Award, which recognizes outstanding high school juniors for their character, leadership, scholarship, and intellectual promise. 

In addition to the book awards, Lincoln Academy juniors were also presented with scholarship awards. These awards offer scholarships if students are accepted and choose to attend the college awarding the award after they graduate from LA. 

Four students earned scholarships from the University of Rochester: Liam Butler (the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Scholarship) Fiona Duffy (the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award), Eva Whitmore (the George Eastman Young Leaders Scholarship) and Asa Frost (the Xerox Award for Innovation& Information Technology).  

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Scholarships recognize leadership, service, and achievements. RIT awards were presented to Caroline Allan (Business and Leadership) and Isaiah Felton (Art and Design)

Clarkson University recognizes two students for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities and for having an academic interest in Engineering, Science, Business, or Health Sciences. This year Joey Crooker earned the Clarkson Leadership Award, and Ben Beavis earned the Clarkson Achievement Award.

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Innovation Award is given to a high school junior who demonstrates outstanding potential in STEM fields. This year’s award was presented to Sebastian Morey.

Ruth Ives AwardFinally, each year an LA junior is recognized with the Ruth Ives Humanitarian Award, which is given in memory of Ruth Ives, who co-founded both the Carpenter’s Boat Shop and the Community Housing Improvement Project (CHIP). The award is presented to a junior with a demonstrated record of volunteer service within the school or local community who displays personal qualities and actions which typify genuine concern for improving social justice and equality, who has a record demonstrating participation in activities at the school or community level, and who displays good moral character in the school and local community. This year’s Ruth Ives Humanitarian Award was presented by CHIP Board member Susan Glueck to LA junior Ayesha Giberson.
