On Saturday, May 9, Lincoln Academy musicians participated in the Music in the Parks Music Festival in Springfield, Massachusetts. Their performances earned them a “superior” rating from the judges.

The Music in the Parks Festival invites music students from schools from all across the Northeast to travel to the theme park and event venue to perform for and earn feedback from highly decorated conductors and musicians from across the nation.

Judges award scores after each performance, and awards are handed out at a ceremony at Six Flags. After performing, students are invited to enjoy the park for the afternoon. This was the first year LA musicians have participated in the festival and both the Wind Ensemble and Lincolnaires received “Superior” ratings and first place trophies for their performances.

“It was a very wet day at the park, but we made the best of it,” said LA choir teacher Jason Paquette. “Our musicians turned the adversity of the rain into stellar performances, and we are very proud of them.”

“We got seven rides in before the rain… and we won!” said junior musician Oliver Jonason.

“It was nice to perform in a new space and get feedback from experienced professionals,” said Junior vocalist Josephine Shea. “Spending a day in a theme park with my friends, despite the rain, was awesome.”
