March is here!

While snow keeps falling, we are welcoming March with open arms and looking forward to Spring in Maine! The past few days of warmer weather and sunny skies have us all excited for the change in seasons, and has our community raring to go as we start our third and final trimester of the year! As we are one week away from the end of the second trimester, we are encouraging students to check in with their teachers and work hard to finish out the trimester with their best foot forward.

During February vacation, Head of School Jeff Burroughs and Director of Admissions Katy Nicketakis traveled across Europe meeting former students, current parents, and close partners. We visited with folks in Spain, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Turkey and even had former students from Slovakia, Germany, and Italy come to meet us at our reception in Barcelona! Getting to hear the stories of the kids and parents that have benefited so much from a Lincoln Academy education is one of the highlights of our jobs, and we thank all of those that trust in our school.

Students and staff alike had a lot of fun last weekend, with students attending a basketball game in Portland, a trip to a nearby roller skating rink, and a wonderful, yet tiring day at Sugarloaf Mountain. We strive to offer a variety of activities so that every student has the opportunity to explore and participate in things that interest them, and always encourage students to advocate for trips they would like to see added or repeated in Res Life programming.

This weekend, we will be sending a group of Spanish speakers to our local YMCA to cook authentic food and to help younger local students practice their conversational Spanish. Some students  will take trips to The Maine Mall and Walmart to do some more shopping, while others will venture through downtown Portland to explore the historic Old Port, enjoy the beautiful architecture, and explore some of the more niche stores and restaurants Portland has to offer.

As we move into the third and final trimester of the academic year, things start to move quickly, so it is important to pay attention to key dates. One very important event at Lincoln Academy is next Saturday- the SAT test. The SAT is an important step for students wishing to attend college in the United States. We wish all of our students taking the test the best of luck! If your child was unable to register for this testing session, another SAT will be held at LA on Saturday, May 2. Registration closes on April 21. Please refer to the Upcoming Events section below for other important dates.

We are very excited to run our annual April Break trip to New York City this year! Thank you to those families who have already submitted their deposit to secure a spot on the trip.
