Welcome, February!

January was a busy month, and February is finally here! While the weather has been cold and snowy, it hasn’t stopped us from getting off campus and having fun around Midcoast Maine. Last weekend, students enjoyed a bowling trip, as well as a shopping trip to the Freeport Outlets. Students reported positively from both experiences, and we received equally glowing remarks about our students from the teachers who accompanied us on those trips.

We had a handful of dorm students who participated in competitive events this past weekend- our track team had an away meet, our cheer members had a competition, and the Robotic’s Team went to a tournament. We are so proud of all of our community members who are putting themselves out there and participating in activities that they are passionate about. Great job!

On Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter. Looks like we have a few more weeks of cold, snowy weather ahead of us. This will provide us with ample time to hang out and watch movies in the dorm, as well as embark on a variety of outdoor activities like skiing, sledding, snow-tubing, and ice-skating. Speaking of, we will be taking a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain this coming Sunday to hit the slopes!

This weekend will be full of other fun activities too, starting with a night of rock-climbing on Friday, followed by a visit to an Alpaca Farm and a trip to Target on Saturday. We strive to provide students with a variety of activities and often encourage them to suggest things they would be interested in doing. Sunday is a big day in the United States- The Super Bowl! We are excited to set up the lobby of the dorm for a viewing party complete with drinks and an abundance of snacks!

Next week marks the last full week of school before February Break, which means it is Winter Carnival week at Lincoln Academy! Throughout the week, students will enjoy themed dress-up days and a variety of community-building activities, such as a snow-sculpting competition and an on-campus bonfire. We are also looking forward to our winter-camp–style dorm stay for students who are staying on campus for February Break.

As February Break approaches, please take some time to review travel plans with your student. Make sure they have all their ticket and travel information, discuss what they need to pack for their week away, and as always, reach out to the Res Life Office with any questions.

Be well and take care,
