Midway Through Trimester Two!
This time of year is busy with athletics and the completion of college applications and essays. Additionally, Friday marks the midpoint of the 2nd trimester, a significant milestone in our academic calendar. It’s important to note that grades are not recorded at this time, but are shared with students and their families as a helpful way to understand student progress and performance. Please communicate directly with your students and their teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
We had a very busy and fun long weekend, both in and out of the dorm. Students participated in a game night on Friday night, followed by a snowy Saturday in KB Hall. On Sunday, a group of 16 students traveled up to Sugarloaf Mountain for a beautiful day of skiing atop a fresh layer of snow! Another group of students went to Brunswick and Topsham to see a movie and do some shopping and snacking.Â
Monday was just as busy and full of energy. We started off the day at the Damariscotta Town Landing and took part in Reslife’s Fourth Annual Polar Dip! Students and dorm parents plunged into the frigid water of the Damariscotta River for a truly unforgettable experience. Shortly afterwards, a cooking competition took place in the dorm, where six teams competed and prepared meals to be judged by dorm parents and students alike. Everyone who participated did an amazing job and it was very special to see students cooking dishes that represented their home countries.Â
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to be very cold. We kindly ask that you encourage your child to dress warmly in layers, including winter coats and pants, whenever they go outside, even for short walks to the Dining Commons. Temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits and below zero this weekend. Despite the cold, we will still be having a fun, activity-filled time! Students will visit an escape room, go swimming at the community pool, and head to Sugarloaf Mountain for Lincoln Academy’s all-school ski day, where they’ll be joined by many day students and faculty members.
As a reminder, February and April breaks are rapidly approaching. If you have yet to do so, please submit an Orah pass confirming your child’s plans for the upcoming breaks from school.Â
If your child is participating in a dorm-sponsored program during either break, we ask that you have already communicated those plans with the Residential Life Office. As aforementioned, the cost for these programs is dependent on the number of participants. The final cost for February Break participants is $1400 USD.
For those who have already paid their deposit for February Break, the remaining balance of $1200 USD is due on Friday, January 30. Here is the link for payment. The final cost for April Break will be published in the coming weeks.
Be well and take care,
