Chilly November Days!

The temperatures have cooled down over the last few days, and the days are now shorter.  On Sunday morning, we moved our clocks back by one hour to align with Daylight Savings Time. Originally implemented to save energy costs by using more daylight hours, we really feel the difference around 5pm, when it begins to get dark. That means our evening walk up to the dining commons for dinner looks a bit darker now!

Last weekend, after all the excitement of Halloween festivities, students enjoyed even more fun activities! On Saturday night, two vans headed out for a shopping trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target. Then on Sunday, the adventure continued with a trip to Portland, where students cheered on the Maine Mariners at an ice hockey game.

We have several additional shopping trips planned in the near future, including a trip to the Maine Mall this coming weekend. These trips present a great opportunity to start purchasing warmer clothes to gear up for winter. We recommend that all students have a warm jacket, a hat, and a pair of gloves to be ready to enjoy winter activities.

We have an exciting, special schedule day coming up on Monday, November 10th where juniors and seniors will present the research topics they have been working on since the beginning of the school year. Notable presenters include Liz and Klim from the dorm- we are so eager to watch your presentations and support you !

The first trimester ends November 21st. Students should be in touch with their teachers if they have any questions or concerns heading into the final weeks of the trimester. They may also access peer tutoring during their FLB (Focused Learning Block), during regular school hours, as well as evening study hall in the dormitory, academic support is always available. Students should speak directly to their advisors or dorm parents about these opportunities.

Travel Plans into Orah

While many families have emailed me their travel plans, after the start of the year we ask that all students enter their plans into Orah. Please make sure your student has a copy of their travel information.

  • December travel information in Orah is past due. Please finish this week or alert Ms. Tan if you have an issue.
  • Approved dates for traveling are December 20. The approved return date is Sunday, January 4.
  • For those athletes who have requested home stays, please note that we are currently developing those plans and will communicate those details in the first week of December.

December SAT Exam

Seniors are encouraged to take the SAT exam.  There is an upcoming testing date of December 6.  Please register your student by November 21 through this website.  Information about the College Board and its role in academics can be found here.
