FEELING THANKFUL!

The end of the trimester is a time of closure and culminating events. As the term ends, students are taking exams and finishing up final assignments- the dorm is full of committed studying and peer-tutoring! At the same time, the community is celebrating the work and accomplishments of students from the past twelve weeks. Several awards ceremonies have taken place, including a large event for the cross country team.

Students have also been presented with several opportunities to perform and demonstrate their dedication to the performing arts. We would like to congratulate our own Nicolas Z. from Mexico on his performance at last weekend’s Java and Jams. He did an outstanding job performing in front of the LA community at an event that raised money for our music program. More school performances will be happening soon, including the Winter Band Concert, as well as The Sounds of the Season Choir Concert.

The winter sports season has officially begun. This week, students gave their all trying out for the sport of their choice. Whether they made the team or not, we are proud of their commitment and perseverance, and hope they had fun. We are also looking forward to supporting all of our athletes as they continue to represent the dorm!

The holiday season is upon us! The American holiday of Thanksgiving will fall on November 27th this year. Plans for the week of Thanksgiving include a trip to Boston to explore and watch the Boston Celtics in an NBA game, volunteering to pack meals for families in need, experiencing a Thanksgiving meal as a dorm, as well as spending the holiday meal with a local host family in their home. Last but not least– we will offer some outdoor activities, cut down our Christmas tree, and do some Black Friday shopping (per student request)!

Travel Plans into Orah

While many families have emailed me their travel plans, after the start of the year we ask that all students enter their plans into Orah. Please make sure your student has a copy of their travel information.

• December travel information in Orah is past due. Please finish this week or alert Ms. Tan if you have an issue.
• Approved dates for traveling are December 20. The approved return date is Sunday, January 4.

December SAT Exam

Seniors are encouraged to take the SAT exam.  There is an upcoming testing date of December 6.  Please register your student by November 21 through this website.  Information about the College Board and its role in academics can be found here.

Be well and take care,
