End of Trimester 1 and First Snowfall!
This past weekend included a half-day from school on Monday as well as a full day off from school on Tuesday. Suffice it to say, students were very excited, and had the chance to participate in a number of fun-filled activities. On Friday night, we had a scary movie night in the lobby. On Saturday, in addition to our regular gym / grocery store runs, we also had many students volunteer to help wrap gifts for the families of Veterans, as well as a trip to see Guys and Dolls at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, and finally a night out at a local entertainment center where students were able to bowl, play billiards, play in an arcade, and enjoy yummy snacks. Then, on Sunday, we filled up two 14-passenger vans with students and headed to the Maine Mall. We shopped til we dropped!
On Tuesday, November 11th, Veterans Day was celebrated in the United States. At Lincoln Academy, students were lucky to have the day off, and even luckier to see the first snowfall of the year from the dorm! This is always an exciting moment in the year as many of our students have never seen snow before! Some chose to cozy up on the couch in the warm lobby of KB, while others trekked outside and faced the cold temperatures to play in the snow. In any case, it was a very exciting moment for all.
This weekend is the last weekend before the winter sports season begins. On Friday, Lincoln Academy will be hosting “Java and Jams.” There will be snacks, refreshments, and musical performances, and all proceeds go to the music department. On Saturday, students will have the opportunity to go shopping at New England’s largest candy store, as well as taking a hike to see Owl’s Head Lighthouse. After a fun, candy-filled day, students will return to the dorm where a bonfire will be had, complete with marshmallows and sausages for roasting. Finally , on Sunday, we will head to the “City of Ships,” also known as Bath. Students will have the opportunity to explore this town’s many cafe’s, bakeries, and shops.
Trimester 1 is coming to an end on November 21st, which coincides with the start of Thanksgiving break from school. Students should have a clear picture of their standing in all of their classes and should be communicating with their teachers if they have any questions or concerns.
