As a child, did you love the tales of Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella? Well, Lincoln Academy and Heartwood Regional Theater Company are putting on the show for you, and it opens later this month.
Into the Woods is a 3-hour award-winning musical written by Stephen Sondheim that ties in multiple fairy tales, with the central plot of a baker and his wife trying to lift a curse in order to have a child. In order to lift the curse, the couple must interact with the fairy tale characters, taking something from each story.
Auditions for the musical were held in the spring, and actors have been practicing their music all summer with the support of retired LA choir director Beth Preston. The cast consists of students from all grades, and the production welcomed students from other schools to participate in the play.
Right now, the cast is in the process of blocking the show. Katelyn Prior ‘27, who plays the Baker’s Wife, commented,  “Into the Woods is a very hard show to do your first time, and I think everyone’s like taking it like a champ.…I can already see it: I can already see it forming for when we actually do the show. I see everyone on stage looking better and better. It’s such a big moment for us and for the audience to have so many people on stage all with the same goal to perform such a great show with this beautiful meaning.”
Performances will be held on October 24th, 25th, 30th, and November 1st and 2nd, all at 7 pm at the Poe Theater. Tickets go on sale October 6th for $5 for students, $20 for adults, and LA staff have one free ticket. Make sure to get your tickets now by emailing info@heartwoodtheater.org or calling at (207) 563-1373, as this show will surely sell out!
