While our very own Bridget Wright was not chosen to be the Maine State Teacher of the Year, I know all of us here in the Lincoln Academy community know how fortunate we are to have her on our faculty. While she is likely breathing a little easier and enjoying not being the center of so much attention, I am deeply appreciative of her professionalism, commitment and dedication to the teaching profession that she showed during the Teacher of the Year process. Taking the time to be involved in this endeavor was a great deal of work on top of teaching her full load of classes. Congrats to her!
You’ll see more information below about our LEAP Symposium on November 10, where 30 seniors will present their Senior Capstone Projects as a part of a pilot as we look toward expanding the project to the whole senior class.
This is the culmination of several years of work led by Maya Crosby, Laura Phelps, and Kelley Duffy, and actually was a topic of conversation in my Head of School interview seven years ago! In fact, Kelley and Bryan Manahan came to my previous school, St Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, to observe our Capstone Day.
Watching students follow their interests, investing in research of a topic they define, and working to impact a community with their efforts are just a few of the elements that make this so important for our students’ education as they finish high school. This group of 30 pioneers have some fascinating work to share with our community, and I look forward to being part of this new element of our curriculum.
Have a great week!
