New routines, new friends and lots of sun!
We had an incredible long weekend here in Maine! Although the weekend started off with some rain on Friday, we did get sunny skies and warm weather for the rest of the weekend. We celebrated Labor Day with swimming and a boat ride on Sunday then a visit to Pemaquid lighthouse and a lobster dinner on Monday. Labor Day. “Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.” I’m including a slideshow of pictures to highlight the joy and excitement of our Maine coast adventure.
Additionally, students enjoyed an evening at the Windsor Fair, an agricultural and recreational fair in rural Maine. These fairs are typical and plentiful this time of year, and celebrate the end of summer. The evening was complete with food vendors, thrilling rides and barns full of livestock, such as cattle, horses and sheep.
The fall sports season is underway, and students are enjoying competitions and spectating. The turf lays right in front of our dorms, so evening games are an exciting part of our week. The boys and girls varsity soccer teams had their first home matches on Thursday. The cross country team competed in their first meet this past weekend, and three of our students competed. Golf had their first tournament this week! Well done to all of our Fall athletes, Alejandro, Alvaro, Victor, Maks, Kieron, Kane, Bill, Richard, Max P, Justin, Cosimo, Camila, Julia D, Nicolas C, Nicolas Z, Liv, Iria, Valerie, Veronika, and Pamir, they have been working hard since August 18!
Students are adjusting to their new schedules and routines. If your student is concerned about a class and would like to change something in their schedule, please know that they must attend 3 classes before changing or dropping a class. They must speak to the teacher of that class and their guidance counselor in the CAC office before requesting any changes. Please communicate with their guidance counselor with concerns or questions about scheduling.
Thank you for your support and attention as we navigate the beginning of the school year. Your communication via WhatsApp and email is vital to your student’s success in this program. Please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns. We look forward to a busy and productive school year!
Be well and take care,
