A Long Weekend Ahead
Warmer weather continues to elude us. It has been a very wet spring, and this week’s cool temperatures are not entirely welcome. However, we are taking every possible opportunity to get outside and enjoy all that Maine has to offer. Beach trips, outside cooking, kayaking and a seaside lobster feast are all on the agenda!
Miguel, Daniel, Pedro & Claudia spent some time yesterday afternoon in a local elementary school. They interacted with a group of young spanish-language students, answering questions and encouraging them to practice their language skills. This kind of community involvement is paramount to the success of this boarding program. Miguel, Pedro, Daniel & Claudia represented Lincoln Academy with grace and good humor, and hopefully inspired some young learners to continue their language development!
This coming Monday, May 26, marks Memorial Day, an American federal holiday that recognizes fallen service members of the American military. Locally, we celebrate with a parade and many communities place American flags on the graves of service members. As a dorm community, we will gather for dinner at Pemaquid Lighthouse and enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful location. We will feast on fresh Maine lobster, a special treat provided by lobstermen working in our communities.
The day off from school will allow our students to recover from a busy weekend and prepare for a week of final exams. Those students who have taken AP exams in certain classes may not be required to complete a final exam. Exam content and academic weight vary by class and instructor. Be sure to check in with your student frequently about stress management and rest, as this time can become quite overwhelming.
Parents of Graduating Seniors:
Please familiarize yourself with the schedule of events for Graduation Week.
Closing the dorm and moving students out is a complex process. Seniors are expected to be out of the dorm by 3pm on Saturday, June 7, and underclassmen the following week, by 3pm on Friday, June 13. Dorm staff will supervise the packing and cleaning of rooms, sorting items no longer wanted, supporting shipping of items that won’t fit in suitcases, and ensuring that records, medications, and other belongings are returned. Please work with your students to ensure that they understand the need to be organized and efficient as we work to complete these important tasks.
Any returning student may leave items in the dorm storage area. All items must be boxed and well-labeled. For anyone not returning, all personal belongings must be packed, donated, or shipped prior to leaving campus. End-of-year departure plans are now past due in Orah.
Any senior, attending college in the US, may leave items in the dorm storage area. Boxes must be addressed and money will be kept in their ER fund account to pay for shipping those items in the fall.
Be well and take care,

Monica Tan
Director of Residential Life
