Lincoln Academy senior Eli Melanson is one of six semifinalists in Maine for the national Presidential Scholarship.

In late March, approximately 500 students were nominated by an independent, national committee of educators convened by the Commission on Presidential Scholars. Three Lincoln Academy students were among the national nominees: Melanson, Jayden Brown, and Laila Brady.

Six statewide semifinalists have now been identified, including Melanson. Maine’s review committee will select the two Maine Presidential Scholars later this spring.

While Lincoln Academy has had several national nominees in recent years, this is the first time that Lincoln has counted a Maine Presidential Scholar semifinalist among its students in recent memory, according to Director of College and Academic Counseling Annie Edwards.

Melanson plans to double major in Physics and Philosophy at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in the fall.

“This year’s senior class is very strong academically,” said Edwards. “We are incredibly proud of Eli for this accomplishment and look forward to following his future endeavors.”
