The Lincoln Academy Lincolnaires in New York City on April .
By Neptune Martin ’26
On April 3rd, the Lincolnaires Honors Choir traveled to New York City to compete in the Worldstrides Music Festival at Riverside Church in Manhattan. The 24 singers brought a challenging setlist with gospel, poetic, and pop pieces.
The set went very well, with the choir receiving a score of 91 out of 100. “Your performance was enjoyable, memorable, and musical. Come back!” said Judge Marti Slaten. The Lincolnaires got 3rd in the Class 1A Traditional Choir category, competing against schools across both the United States and Canada.
While in New York City, the choir visited Birdland Jazz Club, Time Square, and Central Park. They also saw The Outsiders on Broadway.
“New York City was life-changing,” said Willow Tenney ‘26. “Throughout the trip I was able to grow close relationships with my peers and experience such memorable moments. Seeing the Broadway show The Outsiders was so incredible and it showed me where singing could truly take you in the world.”
“If I could go back 100 times I would,” she said.
The Lincolnaires are now busy preparing for their concert on May 11th at 6:00 at St. Patrick’s Church. A select group is also going to the University of Maine Orono to perform at the Maine All-State Music Festival from May 15th to 17th.
Neptune Martin is an all-state vocalist and member of the Lincolnaires. She went on the trip and cried while watching The Outsiders.
