Senior Siblings and Superlative Photos for the 2025 Yearbook
Guest Post: Kelley Duffy, Director of Curriculum & Instruction
Mr Burroughs is still traveling and learning at the Klingenstein Heads of School Program at Columbia University. In his absence we are all digging into the challenge and fun of deep winter.
I just returned from dropping off our three exchange students with their homestay families in South Africa. They are enjoying a beautiful Cape Town summer while we all shiver at home. They are also exploring the complex society in South Africa through taking classes in a South African school, traveling around the country, and living with a family. We can’t wait to hear their stories when they return.
Here on campus, we just sent out mid-trimester grades. This is an important point for students to reflect on their progress. February can be a challenging time of year; the work is often hard as teachers and students dig into longer projects and more complex material. I want to remind everyone that one of the goals of Lincoln Academy’s mission is to challenge students. People don’t grow and change without some challenge and we are here to support students through these challenges. It’s okay for school to be hard and it’s okay to ask for help in navigating these hard times.
While we are working hard, we are also preparing to play hard! Winter Carnival is just around the corner. This week students are starting to work on class banners and to plan their outfits for dress up days. Next week there will be Winter Carnival competitions every day, all leading up to the final challenges on Friday when we crown a Winter Carnival champion. This is one of the most fun activities of the year and we encourage everyone to join in some part of it. Check out our Flickr feed next week for pictures of all the fun!
One last reminder, these weeks leading up to February vacation are also course registration weeks. Students should be talking with teachers and parents about what classes they will take next year. When we return from vacation, students will submit their course requests for the 2025-26 school year. This is an important process that can have a real impact on students’ post secondary plans. Take the time to talk as a family about these choices and feel free to reach out to CAC counselors, advisors and teachers with questions.
Stay warm, stay in touch, and have a great week!
