Lincoln Academy’s “Learning Hands”
Welcome back! I hope the start of 2025 has been good for everyone. I enjoyed the snow while we had it and made a slight dent in my reading pile while tending the woodstove. There is a great deal to look forward to this year, and while the focus will be on the second trimester courses, our 9-11th grade students will start to plan courses for next year as seniors plan their post-secondary futures at a variety of colleges, jobs, and armed services. A date to keep on your calendar is our Annual Peter J. Benner ’92 Job Fair, which will be held on April 2 this year and feature local employers seeking students interested in the varied career opportunities here in the midcoast region.
Before the holidays we welcomed three students from Cape Town, South Africa in our first exchange program. These students are all enrolled in Somerset College, and are set to welcome their host siblings in Cape Town in a few weeks. Kelley Duffy, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will travel with this inaugural group on their adventure beginning January 15th. The LA students heading to South Africa are sophomores Victoria Albert, Reece Achorn, and Fiona Duffy. I’m very excited for them and want to acknowledge their courage and willing sense of adventure.
This exchange program helps us meet the challenge of our mission, which reads: Grounded in community, global in vision and rich in opportunity Lincoln Academy challenges all students to grow in skills and scholarship, serve others, and lead fulfilling lives. I look forward to hearing more about their adventures in a different culture and school environment based on the traditional English model, including wearing uniforms! Wish them luck if you get a chance.
Finally, there are updates below about changes in the student parking lot beginning next week. Thanks in advance for adjusting to these changes so that we can help our students get to their after-school work and other responsibilities.
The campus is active and more chances to see students in action will be in store in January. Keep an eye on the newsletter and our social media, and join us for an upcoming event.
