Plunging Cold Temperatures

Our boarding students were greeted with a fresh blast of -10°C air this morning, providing a glimpse of what the next few days will bring. While Arctic air is keeping us huddled up, we only have a thin layer of snow. Thankfully, inland Maine has been blessed with snow, providing excellent conditions for a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain on Monday for skiing and snowboarding.

On Monday, we recognize the life and work of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr with a federal holiday. The extra day off will be a welcome opportunity for rest and recreation. Our students are feeling the pressure of Trimester 2, as course demands are increasing and many are balancing academic and athletic commitments.

The winter athletic season is at its peak, with many teams and competitors vying for championship seasons and personal bests. The LA Boys JV basketball team, featuring Kieron, are undefeated! Basketball games are the only winter events that are televised; women’s and men’s basketball home games can be found on the LCTV website. Results from track, wrestling and swim meets are released by coaches- check with your students for those updates. You can find photos from those meets on the LA Flickr page.

Please enjoy some photos from last weekend, including an annual Polar Plunge into the Damariscotta River. Under bright sun and blue skies, these brave and hearty souls plunged into the near-freezing temperatures to welcome the new year! Finally, the whole community joined in the ridiculous and hilarious Gross Out Olympics. As the name implies, students were challenged to an assortment of unpalatable and off-putting tasks, all in good fun.

May your week ahead be more palatable than almond milk mixed with Sprite, or baby food.

Approved 2024/ 2025 Resident Student Travel Dates

All air travel must be via Portland International Jetport — Airport code: PWM

All arriving students MUST e-mail a flight itinerary to Ms. Monica Tan, Director of Residential Life, no later than July 15.

Suppose a student wishes to stay with a family during a vacation. In that case, Lincoln Academy Residential Life will make every effort to find a host family. Still, it is NOT Lincoln Academy’s responsibility to find host families for students wishing to stay in the area when the dorms are closed. If a student wishes to stay with a host family during vacation, the student’s family will be charged a daily fee of $75 per day per student by Lincoln Academy. A vacation homestay stipend will be paid to the host family to defray the cost of food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.

Vacation camps and other trips will be offered during the February and April vacations. Host family opportunities will not be offered during these vacations. Boarding students wishing to participate will be charged additional fees for these trips. It is important to sign up early for these opportunities.
