Writer’s block? Need help with a DBQ? Want to brainstorm? This year, Lincoln Academy is introducing an exciting new resource for students: a Writing Center! It is a space where students can work on their writing skills, tackle assignments, and receive feedback from trained peer coaches. Whether you are writing an English paper, a college essay, or crafting a research paper, the Writing Center is here to help you at every stage of the writing process.

In the first trimester, nine students took a writing elective with Ms. Wright. This elective taught students a wide range of techniques, including essay formatting and helping their peers portray a sense of voice in their work. The goal is to create a place for students, regardless of their skill level, to receive helpful advice and support for their writing.

What can you expect from a session, you ask? Coaches can help with all steps of the writing process, however, they focus more on major concepts and the piece of writing as a whole rather than line editing. A sophomore who participated in a conference with a coach called the experience “helpful” and also commented on the “relaxing, chill vibe” it had. She highlighted how impactful it was to work with a peer instead of a teacher and how she actually had control over the conference. Coaches agree that a key part of the Writing Center is giving students full control of their work, as stated in their mission.

As the second trimester begins, stop by the Writing Center during Monday FLB at the library annex. Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, it’s never too late (or too early!) to work on your writing.
