Welcome November- Bundle Up!

The temperatures have cooled over the last few days, and the days are now shorter.  On Sunday morning, we moved our clocks back by one hour to align with Daylight Savings Time.  Originally implemented to save energy costs by using more daylight hours, we really feel the difference around 5pm, when it begins to get dark.   That means our evening walk up to the dining commons for dinner is now in the twilight.

On Friday night, LA students enjoyed an open turf night with music and snacks.  Groups of students were playing soccer, frisbee volleyball and American flag football.  The temperature was warm and the sunset was stunning.  On Tuesday, Terry joined two teammates to win the LA 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  Students are enjoying a 3 week break between athletic seasons.  Some athletes are enjoying more free time, while others are feeling a bit bored without the consistency of a practice schedule.  Many ResLife students are preparing for the upcoming athletic season by exercising at the YMCA and training for their sport.

Arsen and Gellert were awarded Academic Character Awards at Community Meeting on Friday.  These awards are given to students who model “ excellence, compassion, honesty, fairness, perseverance, and service to others”.  Congratulations!

On Saturday, Mr Vesery and Ms Pierpan took a group of students to Acadia National Park.  Located 150 km north, on the rocky coast of Maine, the park boasts some of the most beautiful and diverse coastline in Maine.  Cadillac Mountain, rising 466 m above the coasts, offers hikers unparalleled views of the coast, at both sunrise and sunset.  Our students enjoyed many aspects of the park while hiking and exploring.

We have several shopping trips planned over the coming weeks, which are a good opportunity to purchase winter clothes.  All students should have a warm jacket, hat, and gloves to be ready to enjoy winter activities.  These common items are available in many stores at reasonable costs.  Our upcoming trips to Target and Freeport are excellent opportunities to purchase these items.

Students participating in winter sports need to be properly prepared with the required equipment.  The following is a list of equipment that students will be able to purchase at Dick’s Sporting Goods this weekend:

  • Indoor Track & Field:  Running shoes
  • Swim Team:  Bathing suit, goggles, towel
  • Wrestling: Wrestling shoes, mouth guard
  • Cheerleading: Sneakers
  • Basketball: High ankle basketball shoes

Approved 2024/ 2025 Resident Student Travel Dates

air travel

All air travel must be via Portland International Jetport — Airport code:  PWM

All arriving students MUST e-mail a flight itinerary to Ms. Monica Tan, Director of Residential Life, no later than July 15.

Suppose a student wishes to stay with a family during a vacation. In that case, Lincoln Academy Residential Life will make every effort to find a host family. Still, it is NOT Lincoln Academy’s responsibility to find host families for students wishing to stay in the area when the dorms are closed. If a student wishes to stay with a host family during vacation, the student’s family will be charged a daily fee of $75 per day per student by Lincoln Academy. A vacation homestay stipend will be paid to the host family to defray the cost of food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.

Vacation camps and other trips will be offered during the February and April vacations.  Host family opportunities will not be offered during these vacations.  Boarding students wishing to participate will be charged additional fees for these trips. It is important to sign up early for these opportunities.
