The Middle of First Trimester

Autumn days bring cooler days, heavier coats, and lots of changes on campus.  As the days grow shorter and the sun sets earlier in the afternoon, we reflect on our first academic and athletic milestones.

At the Trimester midpoint, students and their teachers are marking progress by giving out mid-trimester grades.  This gives students important information about their studying habits, strengths and areas of improvement.  For Juniors (11th grade) and Seniors (12th grade), academic success (above an 80%) comes with privileges, such as early dismissal.  Here in ResLife, we encourage positive studying and organizational skills that promote successful learning.  We are proud of our students’ progress so far this year, and their resilience overcoming language and cultural barriers.

The fall sports season is coming to an end, and many of our teams have experienced great success this season.  Our 5 cross country runners have performed exceptionally this year, contributing valuable points to their teams.  Zuzana, Nike, Gabi, Rozalie and Javier have shown extraordinary commitment and growth in their performances.  This Saturday, all runners will compete in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Championships- good luck runners!  In soccer, Pia and Lea have enjoyed their first experience on an American high school team.  The boys’ teams is celebrating a successful season, and are looking ahead to championship playoffs.  Pedro, Andrea, Till and Julius will continue to compete on the varsity level during playoffs.  Miguel and Daniel have contributed to the junior varsity team in many exciting ways.  We look forward to exciting, post-season play!

Fall weather is often accompanied by illness, and Lincoln Academy is working to mitigate infections in the Res Life community.  As agreed to, all ResLife students will receive an Influenza Vaccine on Friday, October 25, here on campus.  We know that these inoculations not only reduce the number of flu cases each year, but also reduce the severity of symptoms. In this communal living environment, these measures are imperative in keeping students healthy and active. If you have questions, please reach out to us.

All air travel must be via Portland International Jetport — Airport code:  PWM

All arriving students MUST e-mail a flight itinerary to Ms. Monica Tan, Director of Residential Life, no later than July 15.

Suppose a student wishes to stay with a family during a vacation. In that case, Lincoln Academy Residential Life will make every effort to find a host family. Still, it is NOT Lincoln Academy’s responsibility to find host families for students wishing to stay in the area when the dorms are closed. If a student wishes to stay with a host family during vacation, the student’s family will be charged a daily fee of $75 per day per student by Lincoln Academy. A vacation homestay stipend will be paid to the host family to defray the cost of food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.

Vacation camps and other trips will be offered during the February and April vacations.  Host family opportunities will not be offered during these vacations.  Boarding students wishing to participate will be charged additional fees for these trips. It is important to sign up early for these opportunities.
