Homecoming and Cooler Temperatures
We have been experiencing cooler temperatures this week, and our leaves are starting to change color. New England is famous for its fall colors, and people come from all over the world to “leaf peep”. While we don’t expect our peak fall colors for another few weeks, the darker mornings and cooler air are a stark reminder of what’s to come. Students are starting to wear warmer coats in the mornings. There will be plenty of opportunities to purchase cold weather clothing like coats, hats and gloves in the coming months!
Homecoming is an American tradition that celebrates the history of a school or organization by welcoming back alumni to celebrate its traditions. This week, we will mark homecoming with athletic and class competitions, 5K road race, a parade with our teams and musicians, a dance, and dress up days. This year’s Homecoming theme is Wild Wild West, and students, staff and alumni will be coming together to show their Eagle Pride at events all week. Check out this week’s fun on our Flickr page! A full schedule of Homecoming events are on our website.
Our ResLife students participated in two field trips this week in the midst of Homecoming. AP Environmental Science students were at the Common Ground Fair while Integrated Science and Honors Biology students were at Reid State Park participating in Coastal Clean Up. Coastweek is a national celebration of our coastal resources. In Maine, the annual Coastal Cleanup is the biggest volunteer event in the state. Last year, 533 volunteers removed 2580 pounds of garbage from 56 miles of waterfront! These two trips address important academic goals, while also allowing students to engage in community service.
Be well and take care,

Monica Tan
Director of Residential Life

Approved 2024/ 2025 Resident Student Travel Dates

All air travel must be via Portland International Jetport — Airport code: PWM
All arriving students MUST e-mail a flight itinerary to Ms. Monica Tan, Director of Residential Life, no later than July 15.

Suppose a student wishes to stay with a family during a vacation. In that case, Lincoln Academy Residential Life will make every effort to find a host family. Still, it is NOT Lincoln Academy’s responsibility to find host families for students wishing to stay in the area when the dorms are closed. If a student wishes to stay with a host family during vacation, the student’s family will be charged a daily fee of $75 per day per student by Lincoln Academy. A vacation homestay stipend will be paid to the host family to defray the cost of food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.
Vacation camps and other trips will be offered during the February and April vacations. Host family opportunities will not be offered during these vacations. Boarding students wishing to participate will be charged additional fees for these trips. It is important to sign up early for these opportunities.
