The School Year is Coming to and End!

We celebrated a long Memorial Day weekend with beautiful weather and several outdoor excursions.  Ten students joined Hearty Roots on a camping trip in Bremen. They pitched their own tents and enjoyed a beautiful evening in the Maine woods.  You may see more about the  Hearty Roots camping trip by following this Instagram link.

On Sunday, students gathered at the coast to enjoy kayaking, swimming and a fire. Though the water temperatures here on the coast are still quite cold, our group seized the opportunity and had a great time.  Monday’s lobster feast at Pemaquid lighthouse was rained out, so the party was moved indoors. Rain or shine, this group really enjoyed their local Maine lobsters!

This week has already been full of senior milestones, such as receiving their caps and gowns and accepting academic and athletic awards.  These events are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and spirit of our graduating class.  So far, our seniors have been recognized with Eagle Awards, L Club Inductions and athletic awards.  Eagle Awards are earned by seniors who have sustained a cumulative Grade Point Average of 90 or above over their entire career at Lincoln.  L Club members are recognized as students who have earned six varsity letters in multiple sports, four varsity letters in a single sport, or four varsity letters in a row.  Flora Angyal earned her L Club Membership with participation in cheer, cross country, lacrosse and track & field.   Violet, Tuan, Nandi and Mariana all earned their Lincoln Academy varsity letters in tennis this spring.  We will continue to share photos and celebrations of our ResLife seniors, but be sure to check the Lincoln Academy Flickr page regularly for more content.

This weekend, Lincoln Academy will host Prom, an American high school transition that our community has been preparing for.  Dressed in their finest suits and dresses, students will start the evening with a trip to an orchard, where they will have their portraits taken.  After photos, students will be transported into town for dinner at a local restaurant.  At 7pm, Lincoln Academy students will gather at Lakehurst Lodge for an evening of music and dancing.   Dorm staff will transport students back to the dorms at the end of the evening.

Preparing for Departure

Shipping & Storage:  Closing the dorm and moving students out is a complex process.  Seniors are expected to be out of the dorm by 3pm on Saturday, June 8, and underclassmen the following week,  by 3pm on Friday, June 14.  Dorm staff will supervise the packing and cleaning of rooms, sorting items no longer wanted, supporting shipping of items that won’t fit in suitcases, and ensuring that records, medications, and other belongings are returned.  Please work with your students to ensure that they understand the need to be organized and efficient as we work to complete these important tasks.

Any returning student may leave items in the dorm storage area.  All items must be boxed and well-labeled.  For anyone not returning, all personal belongings must be packed, donated, or shipped prior to leaving campus.  End-of-year departure plans are now past due in Orah.

Any senior, attending college in the US, may leave items in the dorm storage area.  Boxes must be addressed and money will be kept in their ER fund account to pay for shipping those items in the fall.

Please continue to be in touch with any changing travel plans.  We have 16 seniors in the ResLife community, and we are looking forward to greeting many families during graduation week.  We wish you safe travels!

Be well and take care,

Monica Tan
