Head of School Jeff Burroughs presented Gabe Hagar ’24 with the 2024 Maine Principals Associan Award on Friday, April 12 during Community Meeting.

Gabe Hagar is this year’s Lincoln Academy recipient of the Maine Principals Association Award. A current senior, Hagar is an honor student and a member of the varsity basketball and baseball teams who became the first thousand-point basketball scorer since 2017, and led the boys basketball team to their first Regional Finals since 1989.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators. Lincoln Academy awards an MPA Award each spring to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership in academics, athletics, and strong character during their years at LA.

In presenting the award to Hagar, Head of school Jeff Burroughs said, “I first had the chance to meet this year’s recipient during the summer before their freshman year. I can still remember him jumping off of the flatbed truck, delivering curbing for a town road project and introducing himself, saying he would be a freshman at Lincoln Academy in the fall. Described as consistently the hardest worker in and out of school and sports, consistently making the decision that most impacts the people around him, he is well known to be coachable and a great listener… Our athletics program has been the beneficiary of his investment, hard work and passion. I’m certain that any of us in the gym on the night he hit his thousandth point won’t soon forget the feeling of watching him and his mom, Amy, and Dad, Seth reach such an incredible accomplishment.”

MPA award winners and their principals from around Maine were invited to a luncheon in mid-April. During that event, ten $1,000 scholarships were drawn from among the statewide winners.

Hagar will graduate with the Lincoln Academy class of 2024 on June 7.
