It’s beginning to look a lot like the Second Trimester
The dorm lobby is aglow in holiday lights and we woke up to a bit of snow this morning. First-trimester report cards are going out today, November 29, and the winter sports season has begun!
The holiday season in Maine starts right after Thanksgiving, and our downtown area has been decorated with garlands and lights. Last weekend, Mr. Abbott and Mr. Platukis guided our students through the art of selecting and cutting down a fir tree. The tree was placed in the lobby and decorated for the holiday season. We will be offering many seasonal activities in the coming weeks, including ice skating, shopping trips, a holiday gift exchange, concerts, and indoor rock climbing!
Most students will have started new elective classes in the second trimester. Winter sports have also begun and with this, new patterns, routines, and interests. Please check in with your son or daughter to see how the second trimester has started for them.
We have just a few weeks until our December holiday break and a two-week dorm closure. Thank you for submitting your vacation plans into Orah. If your student is not going home for the holidays, and you need help organizing a home stay, please let us know. To offset the cost of food and hospitality, we ask for a payment of $65 per day. If there is concern about cost, please contact Ms. Tan. More information can be found on the December Break Homestay site.
Please be thinking ahead about student plans for the remainder of the school year. After our December vacation, our next break is in February. The dorms will be closed from February 17-25, but we are happy to offer a February Break Camp at Kieve-Wavus. Please send Ms. Tan a message if you are interested in registering for that camp- please register and pay your $200 deposit here. Again, please submit alternate plans for the February Vacation into Orah by January 12, 2024.
We are happy to share a few more pictures from last week, as there was much to do and to celebrate! Students started off the vacation week with a trip to Boston and contributed 61 total hours to community service projects! The students endured early mornings and frigid temperatures to prepare firewood, pack Thanksgiving baskets for over 350 local families, and build window inserts. We are so proud of these students and their commitment to service. Please enjoy these photos and a glimpse into the holiday season here at Lincoln Academy.
Be well and take care,
