Abigail St. Cyr is this year’s Lincoln Academy Recipient of the Maine Principals Association Award. A current senior, St. Cyr is an honor student, a member of the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, a member of the yearbook staff, and active in community service through the Sigma Sigma Chi.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators. Lincoln Academy awards an MPA Award each spring to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership in academics, athletics, and strong character during their years at LA.
In his presentation of the award during LA’s Friday Community Meeting, Head of School Jeff Burroughs said of St. Cyr, “everyone who works with this young woman: teachers, coaches, club leaders, speak of her in glowing terms. She is kind, responsible, a quiet and strong leader. An athlete on the soccer and lacrosse teams, a capable and hardworking student, and a leader on the Sigma Sigma Chi and yearbook teams, this student embodies the definition of a servant leader. She leads by example and is always willing to work a little harder, stay a little longer, and be a little more creative in order to get any task done.”
MPA award winners and their principals from around Maine were invited to a luncheon in mid-April. During that event, ten $1,000 scholarships were drawn from among the statewide winners.
LA Social Studies teacher Brian O’Mahoney has been St. Cyr’s advisor since her ninth grade year. He said, “Abby is super competent and efficient. She is one of these people that takes on responsibility and gets stuff done. She is a quiet, powerful, forward-moving force in class, teams, and extracurriculars. She works hard, and is very deserving of this award.”
