Lincoln Academy international students shared some of their favorite recipes with local elementary students as part of a “Culture Share” Focused Learning Block offered at LA and FARMS at the Y after school Kids in the Kitchen program. This activity invites international students to share their language, culture, and food traditions with local elementary students.

FARMS at the Y educates children and their families about local foods and the importance of farms to good nutrition. Located at the CLC YMCA in Damariscotta, FARMS at the Y operates a teaching kitchen, and runs educational programs for students in surrounding schools.

On April 4, LA students from Spain, Brazil, and Armenia worked with a very enthusiastic group of young chefs in the FARMS at the Y Kitchen.

LA students Niko Brank and Arsen Mikaelyan showed students how to make Niko’s grandma’s recipe for the Mexican holiday dessert arroz con leche de coco, Brenda Beckers and Julia Luna taught students how to make Brazilian cheese bread called pão de queijo, and Bruno Silguero Hernandez and Juan Alonso Lima taught everyone some Spanish vocabulary and demonstrated the preparation of a traditional Spanish omelet.
