Lincoln Academy senior Isobel Petersen is a National Merit Finalist after three rounds of selection. The National Merit selection process is based on students’ PSAT scores.

Over 1,484,000 students took the PSAT from the Class of 2023. Izzy was one of 50,000 students with the highest scores to receive recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Program, and this fall she was one of the 16,000 high scorers who were notified that they had qualified as semi finalists. Students who become semi finalists are invited to submit an application that includes the student’s transcript, essays, and recommendations. From that pool, finalists are selected and make it to the final round to be selected as a National Merit Scholar. About half of all finalists are awarded a scholarship, and those will be announced later this spring.

“Izzy performed very well on the PSAT, however what makes her truly special is the commitment she has made to our community, whether it be on our Math Team or our state championship tennis team,” said LA Director of Career and Academic Counseling Eliza Gleason. “Being a good tester is certainly an asset, but more important is Izzy’s character and leadership. I am so proud of her and it’s no surprise to us that she is a finalist.”
