Winter Vacation is Almost Here

There are just five days until Winter Vacation!  We are excited for our students taking part in Winter Camp at Kieve next week and others who will be traveling to visit friends and spend time with family.  When we return after the break there will be only two weeks until the end of the trimester.

Winter Carnival starts today!  This week-long celebration includes games and friendly competitions between classes for faculty shield points.   Students are encouraged to dress in costumes for each day’s theme and participate in fun events throughout the week including dodgeball, volleyball ball, a quiz game, and even a limbo competition!

Facilities Update:  Two buildings on campus suffered damage from severe winter storms in January and February.  Our facilities and custodial crews have done fantastic work making repairs and classrooms and the Health Center in the Main Building have reopened.  Repair work is expected to continue through the end of the month in Hall House.

TOEFL and SAT:  There are opportunities for LA students to take TOEFL and SAT exams this winter and spring.  More details and upcoming dates are below:

https://lincolnacademy.org/college-board-and-esol-testing/

  • TOEFL: March 18 at Lincoln Academy
  • SAT: May 6 at Lincoln Academy and March 11 at Morse High School

Don’t forget to submit your plans for April Break!  The dorms will be closed from April 15-23.  We may be able to offer a limited number of homestays over the April vacation, with priority given to students participating in spring sports programs.  If your child may need a homestay, please be in touch with the Resident Life Office as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Career and Academic Counseling

Course Registration
Students will continue with the 2023-2024 academic course registration process with their advisor this week. School counselors will provide information during advisory to each class with specific focuses and goals to keep in mind. Course registration is spread out across the month of February in order for students to be deliberate and thoughtful. In addition to advisors, students should also be talking with their current teachers about course placement for next year, their school counselor, and parent/guardian. Please encourage students to stop by our office to schedule a meeting if they have questions or concerns.

Peer Tutors
If your student is interested in becoming a Peer Tutor, please email Ms. Alicia Lemar in the CAC office at Lemar@lincolnacademy.org. This will happen during FLB and only in subjects students choose. Sign up now to join this exciting program!
In turn, if your student would benefit from the help of a peer tutor, please reach out to Ms. Alicia Lemar at: lemar@lincolnacademy.org

SOPHOMORES:
On Thursday, February 9th @ 5:30pm, all potential students and families are encouraged to visit Bath Regional Career and Technical Center’s Open House to gather more information about the school and programs.

BRCTC applications can be found in CAC and are due to Alexa Abbott by 3/10/23.

JUNIORS:
School Counselors will be meeting with juniors individually to further discuss their life after Lincoln Academy plans. School counselors will help students reflect on their previous three years, their future goals, and explore varying options. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your student’s school counselor.

Juniors who are considering four year college or university, please log into your Collegeboard account and sign up for the SAT. Counselors will speak with juniors about standardized testing during their junior meeting, but they are being encouraged to sign up for the March and May SAT (the May SAT will only be open to LA students) or test dates that work best with students’ personal schedules. Please reach out to your counselor if you have questions or concerns.

SENIORS:
Scholarships are updated regularly and posted in Naviance! Encourage your senior to check often.

Please continue to check your online portals at the colleges and universities where you applied. If materials are missing, we have electronic receipts for all submitted materials from LA and can help. We can absolutely take care of this now versus March. Colleges and universities might be asking for Mid-Year reports. These are not the same as mid-trimester grades. LA does not send mid-trimester grades.  We only send end of trimester grades. If you receive a request for a mid-year report, please email your admission officer and remind them that we are on trimesters, and confirm that your first trimester grades have been submitted. In addition, if you think your mid-tri grades represent you well, please feel free to share these grades with your admission officer, and provide them with any updates since submitting your application.
