Residential Life Update – April 10, 2022

Cruising into Vacation Week!

This marks the last week before the long-anticipated April vacation.  Students are eagerly awaiting the needed respite before the busy push to the end of the school year.  Not only does Friday, April 15 mark the last day of school before vacation, but it also marks the mid-point in trimester three or 5/6th of the academic year.  When we return from break there will be 28 school days until graduation on June 4th and 33 school days remaining for underclassmen.  Wow does time fly!!

April vacation has twelve students staying with local families, twelve students traveling to Myrtle Beach for a beachside vacation, four students exploring the United States with family, and four students traveling internationally.  It is always fascinating to see how much activity this little community takes on during vacations.

Covid Update:  last week we were finally able to kick Covid out of the dormitory.  After three weeks of slow spread, we were able to test everyone out of quarantine and no new positives came from our weekly PCR testing.  We are continuing with recommended masking as we move towards vacation, but no longer require it.  As we have done with the past vacations, all students will be tested upon returning to the community as we restart in late April.

May is a busy month.  In looking ahead, students will be busy with athletics, AP exams, SAT’s, Prom, and then celebrating the accomplishments of our seniors during a jam-packed senior week, culminating with commencement on Friday, June 4th.  We are looking forward to celebrating Senior Week with the Class of 2022 and their families more details are here: https://lincolnacademy.org/graduation-week-2022/

Please review some important information about the end-of-year below and as always be in touch with any questions or concerns.  Wishing everyone a wonderful week leading up to April vacation!

Sincerely,

Jake Abbott
Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life

End of Year Details

Closing the dorm and moving students out is an active and complex process.  Along with departure dates (Seniors are expected to be out of the dorm by the end of the day on Saturday, June 5th, and underclassmen the following week, on Friday, June 10, 2022) we also include the process of packing and cleaning rooms, sorting items no longer wanted, supporting shipping of items that won’t fit in suitcases, and ensuring that records, medications, and other controlled items are accounted for.  Please work with your son/daughter to ensure that they understand the need to be organized and efficient as we start asking them to take on these tasks.

For students returning to LA next year, we offer the service of summer storage of items on campus.  Things must be boxed and well labeled.  For anyone not returning, all personal belongings must be packed, disposed of, or shipped prior to leaving campus.  These steps and dates are important to adhere to and with any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.  We have already begun to accept Orah requests for end-of-year departure and the sooner those plans are confirmed, the easier it is for us to plan the details.
