Residential Life Update – February 6, 2022

2022-02-06T22:46:03-05:00February 6, 2022|

Dear Parents and Friends,

I am happy to share that the situation with Covid-19 in the dormitory seems to be nearing its end.  Two weeks ago we had eight students test positive which caused some concern and worry.  We quickly shifted into a much more defensive covid stance, quarantined students, implemented masking, spacing, and sanitizing rules, and patiently waited.  In a few days time, the spreading slowed, then came to a stop.  We tended to those in quarantine, provided lots of fruit, juices, and healthy meals – and asked them to sleep as much as possible.  While all are fully vaccinated, and most boosted with an additional shot, some still had strong symptoms.

As we moved through the last week, our weekly PCR testing showed great results with no new cases presented.  As of late on Saturday, all members of our community had cleared the quarantine phase and we are again, together as a full community.   We will continue our heightened stance of universal masking through the upcoming week, particularly until we get the results of our next round of weekly covid testing.  Once those results are in, assuming negative results across the community, we expect to be in a more relaxed state of operations and a return to relaxed Covid precautions.  Thank you for your support and communication during this challenging period of community life.

Also, excitingly, there are just two weeks until winter break.  We have students going to winter camp, to the West Coast, to Florida, and the US Midwest.  We also have some international travelers to Mexico, Spain, and Lebanon.  As was the case when we returned from December vacation, we will Covid test the entire community upon arrival to the dorm when we return to the dormitory to ensure everyone traveled safely!

Sincerely,

Jake Abbott
Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life
Lincoln Academy
