Fall College Fair and Progress Reports

Fall is in full swing here in Maine with crisp air and colorful foliage.  We’re excited about the celebration of Halloween at the end of the month and students will be getting ready with holiday baking, pumpkin carving, decorations, and costumes.

Seven Residential Life students took part in a college fair at the University of Maine Orono last week with School Counselor Jose Cordero.  Normally an annual event, this was the first in-person college fair available to students since fall 2019.  Be on the lookout for more opportunities like this throughout the school year.  More here: https://lincolnacademy.org/2021/10/la-students-attend-college-fair-at-university-of-maine-orono/

Mid-trimester grade reports were sent to families by email on October 13.  Please let me know if you did not receive a copy or if you have any questions.  The trimester ends on November 19.  For a more detailed look at your student’s academic progress, parents can view grades and assignment details in Canvas via an observer account.  If you need assistance creating an observer account, please visit https://lincolnacademy.org/technology-for-parents/canvas-lms/ or email latech@lincolnacademy.org.

Sincerely,

Jake Abbott
Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life
Lincoln Academy

LA Senior Newsletter – Early Fall 2021

SENIORS:  Senior Meetings with School Counselors

Mrs. Abbott and Mrs. Blodgett are scheduling senior meetings with school counselors during study halls. Senior meetings are important as they help plan for life after high school whether it is college, the military, or employment. Seniors will receive an invitation to an IN PERSON meeting through their LA email. Seniors should check their LA email account often for their meeting invitation, and accept the invitation or decline if unable to attend.  Thank you for your patience while CAC schedules senior meetings.

SENIORS:  Is your College Application Deadline November 1st or Sooner?

If you are applying to college Early Action or Early Decision with a November 1st or earlier deadline and you have not received a Senior Meeting invitation, please stop by the CAC office asap.

SENIORS:  Come to CAC for Common App Help!

If you need help with the Common Application or any college application, come to the CAC Office. We have Common App samples that you can use as you work through your application, and school counselors are here to also look over your applications before you submit them.

SENIORS:  File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)!

For help filing the FAFSA, the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) is an excellent resource.  Click on the links below for filing instructions and links, virtual help sessions, scheduling a one-on-one meeting with a FAME representative, and the link to FAME’s scholarship search site.

SENIORS:  Scholarships Available on Naviance!

All Senior scholarships are posted on Naviance, including the local Elks Lodge scholarships.  For assistance with scholarships, please email Mrs. Blodgett in CAC at blodgett@lincolnacademy.org.  To access Naviance, go to student.naviance.com/lincolnacad and enter your PowerSchool username and password.

SENIORS:  SAT November 6th Test Date Held at Lincoln Academy

  • Late Registration Deadline for an additional fee:  October 26, 2021
  • See your school counselor for help or questions.

MANY colleges and universities are test-optional this year Test-Optional Colleges/Universities and MANY of you will not need the SAT.  For seniors wanting to test, LA will be administering the SAT on Saturday, November 6th. Sign up for the SAT on Collegeboard.org. There are a limited number of spots and October 26th is the late registration deadline.  A late fee will be charged if you register now. If you are uncertain about testing, please check out the link above or contact your guidance counselor. Questions or concerns? Email Ms. Gleason at gleason@lincolnacademy.org.

SENIORS:  To Report, or Not to Report Testing? That is the Question.

Choose your own adventure in reporting your SAT scores (or not). Here are the steps:

  • Go to the school’s admission website to find out if they are testing optional and if the major/program that you are applying for is testing optional. Sometimes schools are testing optional, but they will require tests for Nursing, Engineering, or another specific program.
  • If your school is testing optional, talk with your counselor about your test scores and if it is in your best interest to submit your tests. This is a strategic move and we want to take advantage of this opportunity.

SENIORS:  LIVE Virtual NEACAC College Fair, October 21st and November 7th
