On the 22nd of February 2015, I walked into Lincoln Academy’s newest residential dormitory, (aptly named “New Dorm”) and thought to myself “Damn, that’s a big common room.” The room seemed… open, spacious, free. There was light coming in from the french windows that patrolled our new common room, and the sweet sound of Mr. Marks giving the dorm’s new residents their marching orders flowing down the hall.

The first floor of the dorm encompasses two boy’s neighborhoods (the red and blue wings) and our large common room, in addition to the infirmary and offices, including one belonging to Mr. Stevenson, our fearless leader. The second floor holds all the girls in the green and orange wings, and finally we have my floor, the third floor, where I live with 5 other guys in the yellow wing. For those of you keeping count, that’s a total of 5 “neighborhoods.” Each neighborhood has their own personal common room as well, albeit not as big as the first floor dorm common room. However, my common room offers a perfect view of the (now snow/ice covered) soccer field in addition to its cozy homely feeling, so I have no qualms about this. Have I mentioned that the dorm common room has an insane projector set-up, that allows us to hold serious meetings, entertaining presentations, and more importantly, movie nights? Never a dull moment in this building.

A little more than two weeks have now passed since we moved into our new homes, and we’re settling in nicely, getting adjusted to our fancy new digs and generally enjoying what really is a pretty rad building. Life is so much easier for residential students now, as we no longer have to commute from different areas to go to dinner, or check in after school, or leave for weekend trips. We’re all living together, and I love it. The new dorm has provided us not only with new rooms and new roommates, but also a chance to actually live and grow together as a community. It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m part of the first group of people to live in Lincoln Academy’s new dorm. I feel like I’m making history, and leaving a legacy for generations of international students bound to flock to this school long after I’ve graduated. My roommate Martin got sick, and spent the night in the infirmary a few days ago, and on the wall (under Mr. Stevenson’s orders of course) he wrote “Martin has beta tested this room.” I get so excited thinking about how 10 years from now, some kid is gonna look at that and think, “Who the heck is Martin?” Little things like that keep the enthusiasm flowing, day after day, and I’m honestly pretty psyched to be living in these new dorms.
